Preschool 2- 5 years

For preschool 2-5 years, the children display understanding of social transactions and expectations for comportment. They show sympathetic and prosocial behavior toward peers and insight into others’ emotions (including parents). As such, phonics and early preparatory programmes add proficiency in their communications and increase understanding of their world.

Primary school

From lower primary school onward, seeking support from caregivers begin to decrease overtime, and increasing reliance on situational problem-solving evident. They would attempt to solve problems independently, based on the information and their own situational awareness. Also, they may adopt distancing strategies to minimize any control/ restrain they may experience (especially from parents).

Adolescence (10-13 years)

Reaching adolescence (10 – 13 years), they are capable of generating multiple solutions and differentiated strategies for dealing with stress, with increasing integration of moral character and personal philosophy in dealing with stress and subsequent decisions. It is at this critical phrase when things can go wrong, if little/ no attempt is made to address their confidence and self- esteem.
